RUFFS strengthens subcontractors in the green transition of the steel industry
The RUFFS project - Targeted training for the steel industry of the future is now underway! It is a strategic initiative aimed at equipping subcontractors, i.e. small and medium-sized enterprises in the steel industry value chain, for the ongoing green transition.
Through a wide range of education, from adult education to university level, the project will strengthen the supply of skills and increase the competitiveness of companies.
Behind the project is Luleå University of Technology in collaboration with Boden Municipality and Luleå Municipality. RUFFS is funded by the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth via the Just Transition Fund and co-financed by the European Union and Region Norrbotten. The project period runs from January 2025 to April 2027, with a total budget of SEK 17.7 million.
The project offers training in areas such as:
- Operation and maintenance technology
- Industrial AI and digitalization
- The role of hydrogen in the steel and metal industry
- Language training for multicultural workplaces
- Increasing business acumen
Particular emphasis is placed on ensuring that the courses contribute to gender equality, inclusion and long-term sustainable growth - in line with the 2030 Agenda.
"By building flexible and demand-driven trainings together with the business community, we strengthen the region's ability to cope with the industrial transition." - says the RUFFS project manager
The project group also participated in Stegra's supplier meeting on September 9, where they held dialogues with companies and took input on what skills Stegra requires from future suppliers.
