RUFFS at the European Social Forum in Brussels
Representatives from the RUFFS project recently participated in the European Social Forum in Brussels on March 3–4, 2026. The conference featured two intensive days with numerous speakers and discussions focusing on Europe’s skills challenges.
A recurring theme throughout the forum was that the skills challenge may not primarily be about a lack of education, but rather about how skills are actually used. Several speakers highlighted that organisations today often make use of only part of the competence already available among their employees, while at the same time AI is transforming job roles and skill requirements. Lifelong learning is therefore becoming increasingly important.
Another key discussion concerned the gap between what the education system delivers and what working life demands, particularly the ability to continuously learn and adapt in line with technological development. The green and digital industrial transition further reinforces this challenge, especially within value chains where many small and medium-sized enterprises operate.
